Assoc. Professor Dr. Shahrim Karim

Chef Dr. Shahrim Karim was born in Malacca, Malaysia. Food is his passion and as the leading authority of the Malaysia Heritage Food, he has done numerous work in preserving the national heritage especially those related to food culture and tourism.

Shahrim’s travels around the world to promote Malaysian food internationally and has been featured on Master Chef Malaysia as the guest jury and various television programs in the country as well as in the international stage. Now, he has an on-line culinary program on Malaysian Heritage Food. Professionally he has worked in the hospitality industry in New York City and Singapore. He was awarded with an Associate Degree in Chef Training from Universiti Teknologi MARA and his first degree was in B.Sc. Hotel and Restaurant Management, New York University, New York.

Next, he pursued for an MBA at Universiti Tekhnologi MARA, Shah Alam, Selangor. In 2006, he was awarded with Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Human Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Hospitality Tourism Administration, School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration, College of Human Environmental Sciences, Oklahoma State University. An award winning Associate Professor, and the Head of Department of Foodservice Management, Faculty of Food Science and Technology,University Putra he is also involved in various volunteering work.

His research interest includes Sustainable Tourism/Eco Tourism, Food Tourism, Food Culture, and Heritage Food. To date he has published more than 70 publications such as book chapters, journal articles, books and short articles. At leisure, he enjoys gardening, adventure sports as well as entertaining friends and families.
